In the latest weather advisory issued on Sunday, July 24-2022 the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) informed that strong monsoon flows “continually penetrate in Sindh since last night” and would prevail till July 27.

Further, PMD told, “Under the influence of this weather system, widespread rain-wind/thunderstorms with scattered heavy/very heavy falls (extremely heavy at times) are likely across the Sindh province from today to July 26-27”.

The department warned that heavy rainfall could result in urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparker, Tando M Khan, Tando Allayar, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Dadu, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana and Sukkur during the forecast period.

Dadu district is one of the vulnerable district in terms of torrential rain floods as it contains Kheerthar mountain range. Therefore FRDP had a quick visit to the Taluka Johi to observe the impacts of rain.

On July 21, 2022 FRDP team visited Taluka Johi to assess the rain impacts on local communities. FRDP team visited are areas of Johi, Wahi Pandhi, Chinni, and Gaji Shah. There was no agricultural or livestock loss in these communities. They only do agriculture after the rain season, thus they utilize rain water for their lands.

DC office Dadu, informed that 3 children died after the rain in different incidents. Letter of this information was also collected from DC Dadu office. However, there were some breaches in link road, but local communities told that they will do earth filling by themselves and it is their practice for the years.

FRDP team also met the two families who lost their kids, and offered prayer with them as showing sympathy with the families.

Moreover, Hyderabad and other nearby cities also received heavy rains under the third monsoon spell. Current rain spell has saviour impacts on low laying areas, katchi abadies and temporary settlements of Hyderabad. People are facing multiple problems i.e accessibility to market, load shedding, people having no or minimum food supply, their houses under water in low laying areas.
